I also know that you have the fullest sympathy with the productions of the best American artists, and would it not be a fine scheme to give particular attention to the collecting of such works, hoping in the future to have your museum outstrip all rivals in the possession of American art?

Before selecting your man, why not investigate the situation more fully, and provide, so far as possible, for the future. Determine a policy and find a man who can execute the same sympathetically.

I am going East this afternoon, and shall be there during the Evans sale. You will, doubtless, be in New York during the same time, If so, I would be very happy to meet you at the Waldorf Hotel almost any time next Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday: and explain certain thoughts now in my mind which I do not quite like to put on paper.
