My dear Mr. Bixby:-
Your letter of the 5th, went to New York, came to me this morning along with yours of the 17th inst., and i am glad to have both.

You are very good, indeed, to let Mr. Tryon keep your landscape a few days for exhibition purposes. I wish I could be in St Louis when it arrives, but that is impossible. However, I know you will dance a high jig when you see it. I was sure you would like the George Fuller. it is a great picture. 

I saw Church in his studio last week. He was the n busy with your "Sea Serpent." It is going  to be a very important picture.

Now, about the Dewing. I think t had better remain with the artists at his studio until you see it, because he does not want you to have it unless it please you perfectly. Mr. Dewing is very sensitive in many respects, and I believe he had one experience with a patron to whom he let a picture go before the patron had seen it, and the result was rather embarrassing. So far as I am concerned, I am sure the Dewing will delight you, but I
