1294. (Wong 23) One Scroll Painting, signed, Chao, Ch'ang. Sung. Chinese.

Painted on silk, in ink and colors.
Still life; showing various kinds of flowers, fruits, vegetables and shells, with butterflies hovering above them.  The first group contains a red cockcomb, white daisies, several nuts and vegetables; the second group inclused feathers and flowers; and the third group shows a brilliant blue morning-glory, shells vegetables, feathers and bamboo leaves; with numerous small insects destroying and dragging away wings of a butterfly and parts of a shell-fish.  At the end of the scroll a blue flowering plant is growing close to a rock.
Signature and five seals at end; three seals at beginning.
Label of mount at upper right, attributes this painting to Chao Ch'ang.
Design of imperial gold dragon on brown paper, precedes painting.
Length 69¼"; height, 11¾".
