Washington DC Jany 3rd 1866

Genl
I have Just returned from Virginia where I saw a family of Freedmen some 25 in number without employment, who are anxious to return to Missippi to labour on the plantation of Mr Alexander of Washington County.

These people are entirely unable of themselves to return, & Mr A has not the money to advance for that purpose.

I think this a special case calling for the aid of your Beauroe, & the interest of the Gov. promoted by puting this idle labour to profitable work

Respectfully your obt Sevt
G M Watkins
