I visited "[[strikethrough]] Leighs [[/strikethrough]] Segar's Farm" Jan. ninth. found in one cabin three women, and one child, neither of the women had clothes comfortable, indeed, had the clothing of three been given to one. it would no more than made the one. warm. there was a bed & Lounge for sleeping. the former had the remains of a quilt upon it. the latter. had two blankets, one woman & the child had no shoes, and but little fire. some of them had been sick, visited by Dr Casey. In another cabin sat the wife of one of our Soldiers. thinly clad and shivering over a small blaze made by pieces of a barrel, said her husband was in Norfolk waiting for his Discharge. her child had no shoes, was barefoot and no under garments of any kind, merely, a dress covered it, I saw other needy cases, but none as destitute as were these.
