Matter of MR. L. Ellison's Saw Mill
on Mulberry Island Warwick Co. Va.

Having been ordered to make special investigation of the above matter, I respectfully Report -

As appears by the herewith enclosures and other information obtained by me. A saw mill was claimed by Mr L. Ellison was some two years since taken possession of by Mr W. H. Hunt under a contract for running mills made with the U.S. Government through Maj. Genl. Butler in 1864, and was moved from its position on the Main land about 15 miles to its present location on Mulberry Island. The engine was left abandoned in the woods and when taken had long been without cover and all that depredations could remove from it had been taken off. It was placed in a building erected for the purposes of Mr Hunt, and run by him, being on the stoppage of his contract turned over to the Bureau about Sept. '65.
