Bureau R.F. & A.L.
Office A. Supt. Prince Wm. Co. Va.
Brentsville April 2nd 1866

Maj James Johnson
Supt. 10th Va. District

Sir:
I have just seen Mr. B.H. Harison and have made arrangements to take care of the freedmen he has left on his place sixteen in number.

I shall have to furnish five with rations at present. Mr. Harrison is a very wealthy old gentleman, and was formerly a large slave owner. He has a special pardon from the President and has recently experienced a feeling of inability to assist his old servants, to whose labor and "increase" he owes his wealth, further than his own interest prompts.

I am -
Very Respectfully
Your Obt. Servant
Marcus S. Hopkins
1st Lieut. V.R.C. A. Supt. Pr. Wm. Co. Va.
