I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of a Telegram of this date making the enquiry why Forty barrells corn has not been turned over to Mr. John A. Jones in compliance with orders received from you. and in reply, I beg leave to state, that upon receipt of said order, Lieut F. J. Massey Asst. Supt. at Yorktown Va. was instructed to comply with said order. he holding a quantity of corn for which I was responsible.

Lieut Massey at once informed me by letter that all the corn, which could be spared at his Post had been sold to the Freedmen for their necessities, and that the amount in his hands was only sufficient to supply
