The papers forwarded through you in the claim for bounty, of Nicholas Hardin, formerly Pvt. Co. A. 1st U.S.C.I. are herewith respectfully returned. This man is not mustered on the rolls as free, consequently evidence will be required; establishing the fact of freedom on or before April 19" 1861. This evidence should be in the form of a Copy of the Court record or if that is not obtainable, the affidavits of two white persons, whose credibility is certified by the officer administering the oath. Please acknowledge
