Deponent states that he did not ask said Brown for any check, that he (Brown) wrote out (on a piece of paper (about one inch wide and about three inches long) his (deponent's) name and the amount of $50 which paper he (Brown) signed and told him to take it to A. Seldner & Co No 39 Main Street and he would get a suit of Clothes: that he (deponent) went to the store of A Seldner & Co and gave the paper to an employee in said Store named Dolby who waited on him, (deponent) and that he got from said Store:

One pair of blue cloth officers pants --- $20.

Deponent states, that after getting said Clothing, said Dolby wrote out something on a piece of paper and gave it to a white boy in the Store and told him to "go with him (deponent) to Mr. Brown and get him to sign it." that said Brown signed it and returned it by said boy to said Dolby and that he (deponent) then took said Clothing.

Deponent states, that on this day (the 6th of October 1866) he again visited said Brown in relation to his bounty, that he (Brown) told him that he would Charge him $20 besides the $1. for Collecting his bounty and that when he was asked about drawing, more clothing, he (Brown) replied; "That's played, the government has stopped it-"
