This Indenture made this 10th day February 1860 between E. J. W. Reed. Overseer of the poor of the County of Accomac of the one part and William Waterfield of said County farmer of the other part Witnesseth: That the said E. J. W. Reed. overseer of the poor as aforesaid acting with the allowance & approbation of the County Court of Accomac County and in pursuance of the Order of said Court to what effect made & entered on the 26th day of September 1859. have put and bound & by these presents do put & bind Jacob Bevens (Free negro) of said county who was on the day of above order four years one month & seven days old, as an apprentice to William Waterfield to learn the trade business & art of a Farmer and with him to dwell & remain until he the Said Jacob Bevens, Shall attain his full age of twenty one years, during all which time he the said Jacob Bevens, his master shall faithfully serve & obey & his secrets keep & his lawful commands willingly do & perform & shall not absent himself from the service of his said master day or night without without his permission but shall in all things as a faithful apprentice behave himself towards his master & all his family during the said term. And the said Joseph Waterfield in consideration of the faithful service to be performed by the said Jacob Bevens do the hereby covenant promise with the said overseer and his successors in office that he the said William Waterfield his said apprentice in the trade & myster of a farmer which
