To Brvt. Brig. Genl O Brown
A.A.A.G.
Richmond Va.

Sir
I am the Executor of the Will of Daniel Boland decd and have duly qualified as such and am acting as such.

As Executor I have control of the real estate of Daniel Boland decd — and in due time I am authorized to sell & convey the legal title thereof.

I am notified [[strikethrough]] that [[/strikethrough]] by Capt Smith the Superintendent of the Bureau of Freedmen &c for this County of Loudoun in which said real estate is situated that he has seized or is about to seize the said real estate or some portion thereof as the property of Wm F. Boland and of John L. Boland. I suppose this is under some misapprehension — and in accordance with the instructions of Capt. Smith I now hereby respectfully apply to you to have said property discharged from the seizure of the Bureau.

Accompanying this application is the will of Daniel Boland duly certified and a copy of the qualification of Executor.

I am myself a resident of Maryland — and gave no aid or comfort to the rebels and am therefore a subject for Amnesty — but by the instructions of Capt Smith I have taken what is called the Amnesty Oath — which accompanies this application

January 24th 1867

Very Respectfully Yours
James Carroll
Exec of Daniel Boland decd
