Dear Sir
I learn that the destitute col'd have been turned over to the County Authorities; who claim under a State law the right to bind out the Children of destitute parents, and who will I have been informed exercise this right.

Having from boyhood regarded with horror the institution of Slavery, I have received this information with the most profound regret: because of its re-establishing Slavery in its worst form. I have this day met a man who it is said caused the death of some of his Servants - who is anxious to possess him self of as many of these little creatures as he can. If he succeeds in getting them will they not be worse treated than if he owned them!
