I went over to Shandy Hall on th 12th of Dec 1866. to see the sale of the personal property of Mrs. Lucy Fleet. What I know of the fight that occurred there is as follows:

I was in the main house, when a colored woman named Mrs. Maiden, came up to me and said there was a fight going on down at the stable and that White men were whipping William Glasgo. I then went down to the stable to see the fight. The first thing I saw was Madison Morgan a white man, striking a colored man over the head with a stick, named David Palmer. [[strikethrough]] over the head [[/strikethrough]] I saw Palmer get the stick out of Morgan's hand, and soon after this I saw a white man named Hamilton Dudley run up to Palmer and stick him in the back of the head with a knife. Dudley then stepped back and said "he had stabed one negro, and he'd be damned if he'd wouldn't stab more. I then went up to him, Dudley and said "here is the man that stabed David Palmer", He said "I didn't do it" I said "I know better, for I saw you when you done it".
