they also swore that Cyrus Harding (white) who was with Bryant's party, took the pistol from Bryant and endeavored to discharge the load that refused to discharge for Bryant. Bryant swore himself that he had got much excited, and did not know what he was doing, and that he got behind a  gate post to get clear of Corbins range. That he did not pursue the negroes further, but returned to the house. Bryants witnes further stated that Corbin put his pistol up and then some of the whites tried to take Corbins pistol away from him. That they did not succeed and the negroes went away.

Corbin's witnesses were composed of Blacks & White men. These all swore that they heard but two shots. That Bryant shot those. That Bryant's pistol snaped as stated. That Bryant did not proclaim himself to be a Constable, and after arresting William Veney. That he B. fired before he cried out surrender. That the whites in B's posse, "shoot, the cursed negroes." That they the blacks who were with Corbin did not know, Bryant to be a Constable.  They said that Corbin said afterwards, he did not know Bryant,
