General,
Allow me to call your attention to a communication forwarded from this office on yesterday which names me for discharge from the position of clerk in this office from the 30th inst. Whilst I do not question either your right or Major Remingtons to discharge whom you please I would respectfully request that you reconsider the matter. I am an honorably discharged Soldier from the Regular Army of the United States have been in the employ of the Bureau as clerk one year during that time I have given satisfaction to the officers whom I have served under, and on this account I am entitled to some consideration. In all orders emanating from the War Dept; Genl Grant has ordered that discharged soldiers Shall have precedence, as neither of those gentlemen who have been retained have ever had the honor of Serving the Country
