Respectfully returned to Bt Lt Col Johnson, S.A.C with the following report,

To understandingly report on the within, nescitates the recital of an old affair that has already been reported on, Viz, An outrage perpetrated by several Freedmen on the farm of the said Trice, There was a political meeting, held by the Freedmen at Reedy Mills, in this County (About 3 miles from the farm of Trice) from which meeting several armed Freedmen went to Trices farm to compel the attendance of some of Trice's hands, who were very busy with their wheat, and who intended, if they could, to go to the meeting, after getting through with the wheat, which was in some unfinished state.- I am not farmer enough to know how.-

This party, some 12, or 15, in number, came to Trices at dinner time, and searched all the cabins for men, commanding all they found to "fall in". They then drew up in front of Trices house, and made him come out on the porch; when John Chew, one of the party, demanded fifteen dollars; one Cold man said he wanted it for "Trice shooting at him" (Chew) but all the rest, - three white men and Trice, - say nothing was said about "shooting" at the time. The demand was several times renewed, but they changed the demand to a due bill for that amount, which they succeeded in extorting from Trice, giving him "while they were loading their guns" to write it. They then left, taking all the men, some of whom were sick, and one of whom had a dead child in the house

That Trice refused to let seven men in his employ
