Respectfully returned to Capt. R.S. Lacey. The witnesses rfd. to in Mr. Kehoe's letter were summoned but the facts which they were expected to prove being fully established by other witnesses, they were not called. Mr. K. was perfectly satisfied in the matter. I would here state that in a similar case 6 mos. ago, a colored witness was summoned under the Civil Rights bill by the Clerk of Nelson Co, & not introduced, only because the other side could introduce col'd witnesses as rebutting testimony.
