In compliance with direction from the Asst" Commissioner. I have the honor to specify the following, as one of the cases, referred to in my report for the month of November 1866, Morton Carter (colored) was employed by John Nance for this year, the said Nance furnishing house and firewood, for said Carter's family. On or about the 1st of October 1866, the said Nance went to the cabin occupied by the said Carter and his family, at about 3 Oclock in the morning, and called them to get up to go to work.
