Captain
I have the honor to herewith forward certain papers presented to me by Amanda Jones, who asks the giving info to her of her daughter Julia now in the service of Mrs Madison Crocker of Wytheville.

By endorsement of Capt. Sherwood you will see that Julia's term of service with Mrs Crocker expires on the 2 " day of the present month, and by June our endorsement of Sept 19th 1866 — it is promised, not only that the girl shall be restored to her mother, but that transportation will be given to her at the expense of the Government.

I therefore respectfully ask that Julia be taken from Mrs Crocker at the specified time, and furnished with transportation to Lexington.

See page 83 for wrapper of Sherwood endorsement with Jan 27th date of service expiration. The date on this letter looks like 27th to me, but I wanted to cross check against the document cited here. ---------- Reopened for Editing 2023-10-25 05:03:33
