I have the honor to state that Sarah Besex, colored, of this, Loudoun, County, has this day, together with her grand son John A Stephenson, who is an orphan boy, and has no relatives living except said Grand Mother, and a young brother who together with himself, resides with said grand mother, made the following statement Viz:
On Christmas day 1862, his Master, John Simpson of Loudoun Co. Va. hired him (John A Stephenson) colored boy to Mary C Buckner, who resides in Madison Co. Va. two miles from Wolftown in the direction of Green Co. Ct House, for Forty Dollars ($40) and his clothing for one year which time, he served her, and at the expiration of the first Year Mrs Buckner again hired said boy from said Master, for two years for one hundred Dollars ($100) per year, all of which time, John served her, for which services, she paid him but Twenty Dollars ($20.00) said twenty Dollars being in payment for services after the surrender
