several blows in the face, and pulled him towards the door tearing his clothes, when he was taken off by James E Murry Deputy Sheriff, and Rubert H Beshaw.

Rector continued in the yard abusing and threatening Maxwell in the presence of a magistrate named James Priest who was holding court in part of Maxwells house. Maxwell asked Mr Priest for a warrent for his arrest but he would not give it, saying that he would get Rector away, and Priest told constable Barber to try and get Rector out of the yard, and Barber did so, upon his return he told Maxwell that Rector promised to interfere with him no more. 

Later in the day when no person was near Rector returned to Maxwells house using threats and  abusive language in the presence of his family. Maxwell made no reply whatsoever. Still later Rector came with his Brother William F Rector and knocked at the Post office door. Maxwell opened it, and they both rushed into the Post-Office. W.F. Rector says "I have come to  settle that egg affair" Maxwell being old and feeble took a seat at his table and Wm. F. Rector said to his brother (James E. Rector) "Give it to him" James E Rector then took from under his cloak a large club and struck Maxwell three or four blows before he could get from his seat. Maxwell finding the blood running down his face cried for assistance. William F Rector then seized hold of him, and held him down telling his brother to "give it to him." Maxwell struggled to get to the back door, all the time receiving blows from James E Rector.
