In obedience to your verbal request, I called upon Mr Rush Austin, and from him obtained the following information, respecting the whipping of Thomas Jefferson col'd, by Dr Burd Son-in-law of James R Goodwin, and others, upon the Suspicion of having burned the warehouse of Mr Goodwin.

Mr Austin stated that on the Evening the fire occurred, he was absent from his home attending a wedding. On the afternoon of that day, he requested Tom (who resided about three hundred yards from Mr Austin's house) to come to his house and attend the cattle as he would be absent. Tom complied with the request, attended and fed the Stock. Mrs Austin and her Niece were also at
