Cap. Lawrence Moore Co D. 21st Infty

On evening of 9th inst I went into Perkins saloon Private McCann was with me. Private King & Serg. Stevens were in there. This was after dark. Private McCann called for drinks, called for whiskey. Perkins thought they were drunk and at first declined to give them the drink I said let McCann have a drink because I want to get him to camp. I did not drink anything. I know McCann drank whiskey, the other two drank something I dont know whether it was whiskey or not. I went out for a moment to see Cap. Morris. Perkins followed me and brought me back, he had a revolver in his hand. he told me to come back he said he wanted me to pay for the drinks. I told him I wouldn't pay for the drinks because I hadn't called for them. He said I hadn't called for them but I told him to let McCann have them. This conversation was after I got inside. I went immediately back with him when he called me. He didnt draw his revolver on me or point it at me, but I saw it in his hand. I said I would pay for the drinks sooner than any disturbance should arise. I pulled out the money in a five dollar bill and the other men told me I shouldn't pay, that they would pay for their own drinks. Perkins then came out from behind the bar and as soon as he came out King hit him on the forehead - It was with some weapon, I couldnt tell what - it might have been a glass from the counter. He hit him about twice before I got in between them. Perkins was knocked against the screen. There was another colored man there. I saw him
