Abt 10 o'clock returned again with patrol of abt 15 men - saw no soldiers then. On neither occasion was there any disturbance

On Tuesday 10th abt quarter past 11 I was ordered by Lt Egbert to town with patrol - abt 12 men. Nine of this patrol were intoxicated. Men had pieces loaded in consequence of exaggerated rummor that several of our men had been shot I ordered the loading.

On my arrival opposite Buck's house a white policeman was taking a col'd man away have one of the soldiers to protect him. One of the patrol struck him the policeman with his musket thinking he was a colored man. he is very dark white man. There were about 15 col'd men there, there were about five soldiers there besides the patrol - Private Weatherwax Corp. Morris, Serg. Shaw, Private Hugh Kelley Pvt James Parker, all I recollect - They were fighting with the negroes with clubs staves and hatchets both sides were doing this. As soon as the patrol came up the colored men all dispersed immediately. I arested all the soldiers.
