of the Beareau Capt Gates, and its being the first case, submitted to the decission of the justice of the peace, who only bound over the offender under a promise, with no penalty attached to not molest my child again. Now the offense is very serious one, and unless we are protected in our rights of person and property, the laws of Congress are of no avail.

To you sir I ask that if your child had been seized and attempt made to outrage her, the indignation of a parent would not ask the protection of the law but you as a parent would have had the offender punished or have inflicted it yourself  I ask that justice be done, and nothing more. You can inquire of the office, who heard the evidence what is his opinion, and I ask that which a free government gaurentees, if this is
