Gen. J. M. Schofield:-

Dear Sir, I am an old blind man of seventy-six years of age. I was a faithful soldier of the war of 1812-14, but as I had the good fortune to escape all the perils of war unharmed I have been unable to obtain a pension, which I very much need.

As I have said I am blind; my wife is seventy-five years old; and we am entirely unable to support ourselves.

I apply to our court for help every month, but they do not seem anxious to do much for us in fact; I suppose they are
