BUREAU REFUGEES, FREEDMEN, AND ABANDONED LANDS,
HD. QRS. ASS'T. SUB-ASS'T. COMM'R. 4TH DIV. 2ND SUB-DISTRICT
Burkeville, Va., June 30th 1867

Capt Garrick Mallery.
A. Asst Adjt Gen'l.

I have the honor to report that during the month of June, I have not tried any cases under the authority conferred upon me by S.O. no. 41. Hd Qrs Asst Coms'r of Va. C.S. 1867
By reason of some of the justices of Lunenburg County having exhibited a disposition to perform their duties impartially I referred such complaints as were made to me by the Freedmen to these Justices for their action which cases they attended to promptly. There are five Justices in Lunenburg County, now, in my opinion that can be trusted with Freedmen's complaints, And when properly attended to, I do not consider it necessary to interfere.

I am Capt,
Very respectfully
Your Obdt Servt,
D. J. Connelly,
Bvt Capt. U.S.V.
Asst Sub Asst Com'sr.
