I hereby certify that about the middle of November, 1865, I took a Census or list of the freed-people having houses and homes on the Farm ("Roseland") of my Father, Joseph Segar, and found then living on said farm the number of Two hundred and eighty one, a number of the families having garden attached to their dwellings. About the middle of October, 1866, at which time the freedmen began to leave the farm, I took another Census, and found the number then on it upwards of Two hundred. I further certify that I am now paying and have been paying for a considerable time [[strikethrough]] back [[/strikethrough]] past four dollars and fifty cents per cord for wood for my Father's family, and am having it furnished at that price as a special favor on personal consideration, the market price being $5 per cord.
