General
I have the honor to inform you that I have endorsed an application to the Gov. of Va. for the freedom of Henry Jenkins (cold) who was tried this week at the Charles City Court. for Felony, convicted & sentences to the penitentiary for Four (4) years. This application for pardon is made by his counsel John P. Peirce _ of New Kent Co. The sentence in the case was only made known to me today - and the prisoner is to be sent to the penitentiary on Monday next. The jury brought in a verdict of grand larceny, which in my opinion, can not be supported by the evidence. I enclose herewith proceedings in the case.
Very Respectfully, Your Obdt Svt.
