of my sentiments and the part I took in the late War, the men are now at home attending to their business as if nothing had happened and it is impossible for me to do anything with them, in the present courts now organized in Va, I now have another case to be tried in that court at the March term. the case is of unlawful detainer and I am defendant. The plaintiff is a soldier formerly of Moseby's command, he openly says he has the advantage of me as the sympathies of the community are with him because I am a Yankee. I am afraid to have the case tried by this court on account of the prejudice against me and wish to remove the case to the U.S. Court or to some tribunal where loyalty to the U.S. Govt is not considered a crime.

Transcription Notes:
Mosby's Cavalry Regiment, formerly the 43rd Battalion, was organized in December, 1864. The battalion was formed in June, 1863, with five companies, later increased to eight. The unit served behind Federal lines in Northern Virginia and was the most effective command of its kind. An unlawful detainer, also known as an eviction lawsuit, is a summary proceeding to determine the right to possession of real property. ---------- Reopened for Editing 2023-11-15 16:16:06
