Dear Sir.
Enclosed please find Application of Saml Borbes or Boggs for Ret'd Bounty. His discharge has Boggs but he was frequently called Borbes & Borkes - which of course was occasioned by the sound which was mistaken & thus the confusion in this man's name, but he declares that there was retained from him some state Bounty, at the time of his enlistment & if all other things agree, the differences in name must have been the result of indistinct hearing of the name when pronounced - & spelt accordingly. He is out at work now & I have concluded (as he requested me to see about it for him) to send the old application, to you which was made June 11th 1867 with the above explanation. Will you please be kind enough to let me hear from you about this & other claims sent, so that I can send out for the parties to come in & get their money,

Your Respectfully
Jas: B. Upshur
