I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of your reference of the 16th instant, of a communication enclosing a letter from Mr. William Daniel, relative to the buildings on his land at Farmville, Va., and calling attention to previous papers upon the same subject.

In reply, I am directed to inform you that the first papers in this case were forwarded October 10, 1866., to the Hon Secretary of War for instructions and were returned by him, without action, to be filed.
