Christiansburg Mont. Co. Va. July 28th 1866.

Capt. Geo P. Sherwood
Supt. 8th Dist. of Va.

Captain,
Is it possible to find out the present whereabouts of John W. Schyles who was a Major on duty at Todd Barracks, Columbus Ohio, on the 12th of July 1865. If he can be found, it may prove of advantage to a Freedwoman of this place, whose husband a U.S. Soldier (deceased) left in his care between three and four hundred dollars, to be paid over to his wife. There is full proof in the case, all that is necessary, is to find the Major. If you can obtain the information required, it will probably prove a great benefit to the Freedwoman.

Very Respectfully
Your Obt. Servant
C S Schaeffer
