to wit: to deliver to your Petitioner, Wyatt Wheeler, a poor freed man, his "horse," - which the said Cothrane, wickedly, dishonestly and unlawfully detains from him and his family. 
Your Petitioner will state, that, every fact stated in this petition, is true; and will be found true, in any, investigation, no matter when made or where made - He would respectfully remind your Excellency - that, the "Provost Martial" at Lynchburg - has once called your attention to the "Enormity" of this case - which you may have forgotten, if the communication shall have reached - you. He hopes and trusts and will ever pray, that you will do promptly and without delay - what he believes, is your Delight to do, to all - Even  with all, your multiplicity of business, and that, is, restore his horse to him, in the shortest way - and time - detained from him, by this rapacious, dishonest, and griping [[strikethrough]] and [[/strikethrough]] Rebel, John H. Cothrane - of Appomattox County - Va. - your petitioner lives, in Charlotte County, Va. 10 miles, distant from the said J.H. Cothrane - N.B.
