continue much longer, as we depend wholly upon voluntary contributions direct and fresh from our friends. Genl Schofield is no doubt acquainted with the facts of the negotiations as exhibited to him by his agents at Danville, but I fear we are not fairly represented at his Hd Qrs
I am sure if Genl Howard were to visit in person our establishment at Danville he would unhesitatingly assign us the buildings there on as liberal terms as he did in N. Carolina. At Danville is our model mission & school The darkest hole at first in respect to southern antipathy; now the brightest in progress and in pro-civilizing aspects. I have visited many schools in the South, and organized many others & supervised them Our Danville school is first among them. I wish this letter were made use of for the best; & if fit, in course, sent to Genl Howard. It would do his heart good to make a tour in company with Geo Dixon (starting at Danville) and see all our schools.
