Danville Va, 12 month.28.1866

To Genl. Schofield
Esteemed Friend
I received my letter of 11st month 2d 1866 to thee, and observe the endorsement thereon of 12 month 12st 1866. I am obliged to thee for thy recommendations respecting the Govt property here held by the Philadelphia association for assisting the freedmen in North Carolina and Virginia.
I may inform thee that I have arranged with the guardian of the children to have the land on which the buildings stand for 52 years, and am waiting now for the price to be fixed for the buildings before closing the bargain with him. I sketch the property below, it includes two suits of buildings as sketched below, though not from any scale.
I enclose a copy of our last monthly report, in order that thou may see the important work we are carrying on here. Danville is my home, Eunice C. Dixon is my wife, who is united with other ladies, who have given up good homes to raise the down trodden freedmen.
Asking thee for an early reply, believe me
thy obliged friend
