kill me.  I then drew my pistol and aimed at him but some person dragged him from my door.  I was obliged to set in my door with pistols on my person all day and part of the night. There were several Magistrates present but did not interfere or in any way did they try to prevent or stop the riot.  About one hundred Freedmen collected together with fire arms and at one time I feared it would result in a serious riot but this I prevented by telling them they must not interfere.  
     Below I give the names of the Civil Officers who were present and did not try to stop the riot.
     Samuel W. Y. Muse, Justice of the Peace, was drunk and associated with the ruffians.
     Alfred H. Garnett, Justice of the Peace, was present but did not try to stop the disturbance.
     George F. Ramsey, Justice of the Peace, did not try to stop the disturbance, he was applied to by a citizen for a warrant to arrest the ruffians, he says he gave the warrant but the citizens say not; if he did it was not executed and no person knows what became of it.
     Wm.B. Meicon, Constable, was the originator of this disturbance.
     I earnestly request that the above named civil officers be presented to the Com'd'g Officer for removal
