Elizabeth N.J. Sept 14 1867

Bvt: Maj: Garrick Mallery
A.A.A.G.

Major,
I have the honor to tender my resignation as Bureau Agent in charge 6th Div. 5th Sub. Dist Va.

Being on account of ill-health absent on "leave" I resign before its expiration from assurances by my physician that I ought not for some time to return. Only a pressing necessity could induce me to resign in such a comparatively short term after assuming the position of Agent.

I am Major
Very Respectfully
Your obdt. Servt
