has been meeting with committees from the National Council of Churches, urging more and more attention, more and more information and more and more support of the Indians in their position. This resulted, I am sure, or I am sure that your organizations worked in the past years had a great deal to do to bring about a study by the churches of Indian problems. Why is America more conscious of INdians? Is it because the [[strikethrough]] American [[/strikethrough]] National Congress of American Indians think and want this study of the church has had a great deal to do with it, you know, everyone of you.has had to fill speaking engagements all year long and then they asked you what [[strikethrough]] you [[/strikethrough]] they can do, and many of them now are writing letters into Washington. One week alone 250 letters came opposing the confirmation of Mr. Dorrit's appointment, mostly from church people across the country. This gives you some idea of the volume of pressure that can be created when you, working with your friends that are willing to write letters can bring to bear. Mrs. Bronson did that, she had a very fine conference with Dr. Fye and he agreed and his magazine agreed to pay the expenses to send him out on a tour out of which came these articles in the Christian Century. So you see [[strikethrough]] what [[/strikethrough]] in a beginning it was the work of your organization. I think an interesting aspect of that is, that the Pimas had finally gotten a well dug over much opposition but couldn't get the electricity turned on, as I understood it. But the day Dr. Fye wrote the story on the Pima water situation, by the way and the day before the article hit the mewsstands, the electricity was turned on. We tried to tell them that that was worth at least a $1000 dollars to the National Congress but so far we haven't received the check. Those articles alone and thestudies alone have resulted in informing thousands of churches and many thousands of people who [[strikethrough]] have [[/strikethrough had
