Captain
It becomes my duty to report the burning a Freedmans School house at Speedwell Wythe Co. Va. on the 18th inst. The neighborhood is quite alarmed fearing more serious trouble. Threats are made to burn the mans building upon whose land the school house, stood who is a prominent union man. Efforts have been made and we are still doing all we can to discover who made the threats and the perpetrator of the burning but as yet without success. The conduct of the magistrates tend to encourage such acts of lawlessness rather than to suppress the same. The best remedy would be a judicious change in the magistrates. Further particulars
