The A.S.A. Com'r is doing all he can for Temperance and Education among the freedman. I have had the [[Sail?]] inspected and each case reported on separately and find that none are confined without good cause.

Chesterfield County! In this County I have heard of but one disturbance and that was a brawl between a drunken white man and an employee of the coal pits. The white threatened the life of the colored man and followed him and caused some excitement among the colored as their comrade was missing. It appears that a party surrounded the white man's house and threatened his life. In event the colored man was not found. 
A party ready at any time to swell molehills into mountains, posted a messenger to the Commanding General with information that a great riot was in progress. The Major Gen'l immediately
