Lieutenant,
I have the honor to report the following particulars with reference to the murder of an aged colored man, named John Lewis, by one Robt Doswell residing near the upper end of this County.

On Monday morning the 10th inst, Robt Doswell, who is about 22 years of age, and son of Geo. W. Doswell Esqr., Presiding Justice of the County, was working in the garden with several colored men, among whom was John Lewis, one of the old family servants, from 65 to 70 years of age.

Lewis, owing to his long connection with the family, as a gardener, gave some directions to the other hands which young Doswell chose to consider as assumption and resented,
