The Poor
The appropriation for Poor in this county is ($1000) One Thousand dollars, and civil authorities are willing to give shelter to all proper applicants for relief but the above appropriation is not available until November Court, and appropriation for 1867 and 8. being exhausted, at present the provision for feeding and giving beds to sick inmates, is entirely inadequate. Representations have been made to the proper Officers, and a more humane scale of relief will I hope be soon adopted.

Labor.
Is over abundant, for capital to feed and pay, and until there is an influx of means, the Freedmen must continue needy.

Schools.
During the quarter the school at Farmville has been closed, and with the exception of one taught by James Brown, a colored man, at Prospect - nothing has been done in education. The association which has hitherto supported teachers at Farmville now requires the freedmen to contribute towards expense, but it is difficult to bring them up to the required standard of payment.

Citizens in this County are tolerant of, but quite uninterested in education.

Taxes for 1868 and 9.
The levy is (40¢) Forty cents Poll Tax and (50¢) Fifty cents per ($100) one hundred Dollars.

Road duty.
Freedmen have performed trifling road duty, and most of the roads are in a very bad condition.

Political Differences
Political differences between White and colored irreconcilable, unless freedmen will vote "conservative".
