Crops.
Wheat gave a fair return, but breadth sown was too limited, in comparison with area of suitable land, Oats generally light. Tobacco fair-quantity and yeild [[yield]], and housed in good condition. Corn has turned out a fair crop, but owning to late planting, is not nearly so abundant as desirable.

Charlotte County.
General Condition.
The general condition of freedmen in Charlotte County differs little from Prince Edward County, but as this county did not suffer so much from drought, and has a large area of rich lands, the return for their labor promised to be better.

There has been a great drawback in one particular, which is to be regretted: much time has been lost needlesly attending court day speeches, at the call of the members of late convention; and besides the loss of labor, a feeling of mutual irritation and distrust has been engendered between White and colored. This irritation has produced the natural consequence, it had become common to attend meetings armed, and serious disturbance occurred on several court days. Fearing that an unfortunate collision would occur, I requested that the Head Quarters of Bureau Agent for the 1" Division might be removed from Farmville to Marysville, and the result has proved the change most beneficial.- Most of the labor performed by Freedmen is for share of crop.- [[strikethrough]] and as most of the labor performed by Freedmen is for share of crop,-[[/strikethrough]] and, as under all such circumstances, the amount realized by the laborers is subject to many contingencies. Weather, quality of land and honesty of employers. The arrangement with most working for wages, is that one half of amount be paid in July, balance at Christmas; and many employers having their crop planted, wished to reduce their expenses by discharging hands on frivolous excuses; and still later, when harvest was ended, and Tobacco cultivated,
