than in last quarter and at present are very few indicating general employment of the freedmen 

The schools of this Division No. 1 were well attended and so far as observation could indicate have made very commendable progress.

Those in Lynchburg are now closed and will remain so until September.

Mr. Wilson's records and papers are in good condition and I report faithful discharge of the dusty during the Quarter. 

In Division No. 2 Pittsylvania County I found little change save for the better in regard to destitution among the blacks in Danville. There had been very much demand for labor on the river plantations in the vicinity and the consequent thinning out of the colored population rendered the position of those remaining very much better. 

The civil authorities were able to care for the absolutely dependent. The schools were progressing favorably and in all respects the condition of the blacks
