General

At the solicitation of numerous friends I respectfully solicit from you an appointment as Agent of the Bureau. On account of the very delicate health of my wife who is suffering from consumption I am unable to leave the State and I will probably have to remain until May or June next as she is unable to undergo the fatigue of a long and tiresome journey from a warm to a cold climate. My means are slender and expenses are heavy. Business is dull and trade is stagnated and employment is scarce. The loss of my arm is a great deel in my way in procuring employment suited to my condition. I have thought it useless to send with this any reccommendations as I am officially well known to you. If you will make the appointment asked for it will be gratifying to my friends and acceptable to the community, and I assure you I will show my appreciation of the favor by a strict attention to the duties imposed upon me Hoping to hear from you
I remain Your obt Servt
