In accordance with instructions contained in letter dated Bureau R.F.& A.L. Head Qrs. Asst. Comr. Dist. Va. Richmond, Va. May 25th 1868. I proceeded to Woodstock, Va. and have the honor to make the following report. On Monday night May 18' the news of Mr. Johnson's acquittal on the 11th article of impeachment having reached Woodstock, a number of men celebrated the event by a bonfire and parading the town with drums &c. and halting at the houses of such union people as proved themselves to be the most thoroughly loyal. They insulted and alarmed the defenseless by yelling, firing of firearms, throwing of stones and threatening themselves or their property with violence or destruction. Mr. J.S.H. Hall [[strikethrough]] left [[/strikethrough]] was absent from his division [[strikethrough]] on the first instant, without authority from any source so far as known [[/strikethrough]] and did not return
