I have the honor to report that I have carefully investigated the case of the Commonwealth vs Pear tried by the County Court of Norfolk Co. The assault and attempted robbery alleged to have been committed by the accused was a very aggravated one and the evidence against him very strong. Mr W.H. Whitehurst the assaulted party, a man of unimpeachable integrity, is very positive in his identification of the accused, while the testimony of Rev. Wm. Lewis, instead of proving an alibi points in the opposite direction, as the accused made his appearance at Lewis Camp dressed very nearly as described by, Whitehurst about the time in which a man could have walked from the Scene of the attempted robbery to that place, An attempt to
