Bureau of Refugees, Freedmen and Abandoned Lands,
Head Quarters 2nd Sub-District, Virginia

Petersburg, June 20th, 1868.

Brig Gen O Brown
Asst Commissioner Richmond

General

With reference to your return of my application of the 17th for leave of absence whenever you state that an election will soon be held in this State, I beg leave to state that I will return before said election comes off, even within a week I prefer 15 or even 10 days absence now to 20 days next month. Indeed with the uncertainty of the Bureau continuing I would not go at all now if it were not of some importance

Under these circumstances if I can have a short leave I shall be extremely glad.

Very rsptly yours
JR Stone
